Mrs. Tina Atkinson was born and raised in NJ and attended college at Westminster Choir College in Princeton, NJ and Montclair State University in Montclair, NJ where she received a Bachelor's in Music with a concentration in Voice/Musical Theater. Mrs. Atkinson has been singing and playing saxophone and piano for over 30 years! She often can be found accompanying her students on these instruments as well as leading and playing/singing in different band ensembles.
She has been teaching music lessons on a variety of instruments and many theater productions for the past 20 years and has been running JAK Music Studios LLC for the past 13 years. Through her training, she has been involved in several musical theater productions including: Into the Woods, Parade the Musical, Cabaret, How to Succeed in Business, Sweeney Todd, The Consul, and several student written and performed dramas.
Mrs. Atkinson also sang in several choral groups including symphonic choir, Jazz choir, and Chamber Singers, with whom she travelled to Eastern Europe touring several traditional church and theater settings. Mrs. Atkinson has taught professionally for 20 years both in NJ and CA as a choreographer in NJ for NPHS's performance of Bye Bye Birdie, musical theater instructor, classroom music teacher for grades K-12, music pups instructor (ages 18mo.-3yrs.), piano and vocal group and private class instructor, and as vocal Music Director to SRO Productions for their '07-'08 season production of THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE, 2010's ANNIE (also in the role of Grace Farrell) and completed SRO's production of HAIRSPRAY in July 2011 as Musical Director for which she received an award from the ITL, Inland Theater League, for her work. Currently, Mrs. Atkinson continues to teach private music lessons on many instruments through several different outlets along with overseeing and managing JAK Music Studios LLC operations while simultaneously holding a teaching and advising position at The Pingry School.
Music is not just a job for Mrs. Atkinson...it's a passion. She continually strives to encourage and motivate her students and teachers to explore their individual talents and abilities to their fullest. Music is a very natural and emotional way for anyone to truly express their soul. It is JAK Music Studios' goal to help others find that connection to music and enjoy the experience and joy that music can provide at its fullest potential!
JAK Music Studios LLC offers private and group music lessons in voice, voice therapy, piano, pedagogy, saxophone, guitar, drums, acting, violin, flute, audition preparation and musical theater. JAK Music Studios hosts two recitals each year for all students interested. We also provide a musically guided special education curriculum to those in need of it.
